Also known as Korean Giant, Large Korean or Olympic, this unique variety can bear grapefruit size fruit with sweet, crisp and juicy flesh. These attractive, light brown pears can weigh more than a pound and ripen in early October. They are great for fresh eating, drying, cider, canning, and can be put in cold storage for 6-9 months. The trees are beneficial for pollinator insects and are attractive to look at. Resistant to fire blight and and pear scab. Cold hardy to USDA zone 4
Pollinator required – must plant near a compatible variety of pear for fruit production. Ari Rang is not on the pollination chart we have shared in our pollination tab, but it can cross pollinate with pretty much all other Asian pear varieties especially Shinsui, Shinko, Hosui, Shinseiki, Nijiseiki, Chojuro and Yoinashi. It is also compatible with Bartlett.
